Most visitors to Melbourne soon notice that our population comes from so many different parts of the world, and my own family is no exception – four generations ago we lived in six different European and Asian countries. For at least the last half century, Australia has acted as a magnet for people from other countries: a place where they could find safety, prosperity or a new beginning under better circumstances.
And for many people living both outside and in this country, Australia is still the “Lucky Country.”
And yet, there is a surprising amount of stress, dissatisfaction and downright unhappiness in our city – and in the country, as a whole. For many of us, it seems, spending our lives in the “world’s most livable city” isn’t enough to bring us the happiness we want.
So what has gone wrong? Partly, perhaps, it’s that Aussie sense of independence: “Well, if I can’t fix my problems, there just can’t be a way to fix them!” As a Melbourne life coach, I see the paradox between our beautiful surroundings and the not-so-beautiful lives many of my fellow Melbournians lead each day. It’s a shame, I know, because it needn’t be that way.
Of course a lot of people don’t know what life coaching is. Others are under the impression that coaching is either for corporate go-getters or those whose lives have completely gone off the rails.
Actually life coaching can be for everyone – even if your life is pretty good, it can’t always be excellent. And if things really aren’t the way you want them to be, you’d be crazy not to seek some expert help, wouldn’t you? For some people, motivation can initially be an issue (“Why should I make an effort to be happy?”) but even that’s coachable!
Other things people seek help from a life coach for include: creating a new vision for their life, learning to deal with negativity, being the best mother/entrepreneur/boyfriend they can be, job stresses – or just finding a new job! Anything, in fact, that a person – including you – could want to see improve in their life.
For many people in Melbourne life coaching has already become the preferred path to the life they want. Psychotherapy? No, I don’t want to talk about my mother! Counseling? No, I need more than just “good ideas.” Well, pick up the phone and get yourself a life coach.
For a life coach Melbourne offers the delightful combination of a world full of opportunities and people who have the initiative to want to go and find out how to take advantage of some of those opportunities – to create a better life for themselves. Perhaps, it’s time for you to be one of those people?
Of course even if you live somewhere else, you’d still want to find yourself a Melbourne life coach, because living in the world’s most livable city gives us an infectious sense of what’s possible!
